The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) scholarships offer graduates from development and emerging industrialized nations the opportunity to pursue postgraduate or Master’s degrees at recognized German universities. Exceptionally, in specific cases, the scholarship enables the pursuit of a doctoral degree, contributing to the attainment of a university qualification (Master’s/PhD) in Germany.

Scholarship Value/Inclusions/Duration: The scholarships encompass monthly stipends of 861 euros for graduates and 1,200 euros for doctoral candidates. Additionally, funding is provided for health, accident, and personal liability insurance coverage, along with a travel allowance, unless these expenses are covered by the applicant’s home country or another funding source.

The scholarship duration varies, spanning 12 to 24 months (depending on the institution) for Master’s programs and 42 months for PhD programs.

Eligibility: A typical scholarship recipient:

• Currently holds a position in a public authority, state entity, or private company in a developing country, engaging in planning and executing projects with a developmental policy focus in technological, economic, or social domains. • Possesses a Bachelor’s degree (typically a four-year program) in a related field. • Exhibits academic excellence with results that are significantly above average (upper third) and has accumulated at least two years of relevant professional experience after completing the initial degree (bachelor) at the time of application. • The completion of academic degrees should generally not exceed six years. • For courses taught in German (including a 6-month German language course): Must pass the language examination DSH 2 or TestDaF 4 before the commencement of the program. Thus, a minimum German language proficiency level of B1 is mandatory at the time of application, substantiated by a certificate. • For courses taught in English: Must provide evidence of adequate language proficiency as per the regulations of the respective courses.
